Delta GEMS
Delta Academy II/Delta GEMS is the Delta GEMS Program developed by the Program Planning and Development committee at National Headquarters and introduced during the Regional Conference.
Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully)is a teen lift program under the auspices Educational Development Committee of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Chicago Alumnae Chapter. The Delta GEMS (grades 9-12), participate in educational, cultural, social, and public service activities. Their meetings are held on the 3rd Sunday of every month at D'Estee.
During the Chicago Public Schools spring break, the Educational Development Committee/Del-Teen sponsors a Historically Black College Tour that is open to female and male high school students. The tour visits different black colleges and universities every year.
As you know Delta GEMS has a consistent emphasis on community service and this year's program is no exception. We are proud to report that a total of forty-four GEMS attended the Share your Soles Organization service project on Saturday, November 18th. They organized pairs of shoes for shipping to third world countries. Their next activity will take place Saturday, December 16th at the Night Ministry on the north side of Chicago. The GEMS will prepare toiletries for distribution for the homeless throughout the Chicagoland area.
College Tour Just a reminder that applications for this year's Historically Black College Tour will be available at chapter meeting and by clicking on the following link College Tour Application & Packet . The bus will stop in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama during the week of March 15 – 21, 2008. To review and print an application please click on the following link
The GEMS will meet on Sunday, December 17th at 2pm at D'Estee. Featured speakers will lead them in activities and dialogues pertaining to issues such as domestic violence, teen dating and AIDS.
The next committee meeting will be held on Saturday, January 16th at 12:30pm at the home of Monica Morrow.
