Our House
On May 9, 1989, D’Estee,
Inc. was established by the Chicago Alumane Chapter as a not-for-profit
organization, 501 © 3. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. - Chicago
Alumnae chapter has continued to provide public service to the community
since 1959. The business affairs of D’Estee, Inc. are managed by
a Board of Directors who are members of Chicago Alumnae. Presently, there
are twenty members. Elected officers are president, vice president, financial
secretary, recording secretary, and treasurer.
Mission
Statement
The Board of Directors
of D’Estee, Inc. endeavors to maintain and sustain a public service
focus, manage the fiscal affairs of D’Estee, Inc., and interact
with multiple facets of the community at micro and macro levels.
There current focus is to save our young females (age 11-14) from the
perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures.
The Marian
Huffman Room
In October 18, 1995,
members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. – Chicago Alumnae chapter
unanimously decided to name the 4525 South King Drive portion of the D’Estee
Building, The Marian Huffman Room. This honor was in appreciation of Soror
Huffman’s extraordinary contributions to acquiring the property
now known as the D’Estee building.
Burn The Mortgage
Campaign
On November 15, 1996,
Burn the Mortgage Campaign kicked off. On January 20, 1999, 26 months
later, the final dollars were collected at Founders Day 1999 to Burn The
Mortgage.
